Recruitment Brief for Fall 2017
Approved by Shanghai Education Commission, Shanghai University – Paris International Institute of Fashion and Arts
was established in June 2003 and started its enrollment in September the same year.
The recruitment for 2017 will carry out the principle of interview by professors of the Institute and admission
of the best applications.
The details are as follows:
1. Educational system:
Three-year full-time undergraduate program, two semesters per academic year
2. Majors:
Fashion Design and Pattern-making
Luxury Marketing and Management
Fashion Communication(Luxury Marketing and Management)
3. Perspective students:
Graduates from high schools or other equivalent schools (including secondary schools, vocational and technical schools)
4. Admission and Enrollment:
Applicants shall bring high school certificate as well as current ID card to Recruitment Office
(in the Jingan Campus of Shanghai University) to go through application procedure and fill out the application form.
An interview will be arranged by the college.
Those who pass the interview will get the letter of admission,
with which the students can go through admission procedure.
5. Admission Q & A:
5.1 Brief Introduction of Shanghai University
Shanghai University is a member university of the national project 211 and is a research-intensive and comprehensive university.
The former president, Professor Qian weichang, is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a reputable educator,
scientist, and social activist.
At present, Shanghai University has 23 schools and 1 independent department, with 68 undergraduate programs, 131 master programs,
17 engineering master programs, 35 Ph.D. programs, 13 post-doctoral programs and 1 MBA program. It also has 4 national key disciplines,
4 key and 5 special disciplines of municipal level.
Moreover, it has 2 national key laboratories cofounded by Ministry of Science and Technology and Shanghai Municipal Government,
1 Sports Social Sciences research center under General Administration of Sport, 1 Key Laboratory under the Ministry of Education,
1 Engineering Research Center under Ministry of Education, 1 development center for featured majors under the Ministry of Education,
2 humanities and social science research centers of municipal level as well as 15 young science and technology experts who have made
outstanding contributions at national level.
The University enjoys rich teaching resources in the arts and art education as well as considerable teaching achievements.
Shanghai University-Paris International Institute of Fashion and Arts is located in No. 1220 Xinzha Road.
The campus is well equipped with modern teaching facility and is only 5 minutes’ walk from West Nanjing Road.
5.2 Brief Introduction of MOD′ART International
Founded by several celebrities in Paris fashion circles in the 80s of the last century, MOD’ART International has a history of more than 20 year.
MOD’ART International is located in the center of Paris.
The institute has an enrollment of more than 700 students now,
among whom 40% are foreign students from nearly 10 countries and regions including Germany, Russia, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, China and Hongkong etc.
MOD’ART International has the following majors: Fashion Design/Making, Design and Making of Costumes and Accessories,
Luxury Marketing and Management, Haut Hats Design etc.
Haut hats Design is a unique major in French fashion education whose main purpose is to design high quality hats for famous brands.
This major enjoys a high reputation across Europe.
The objective of MOD’ART International is to develop students into fashion designers,
pattern-makers and marketers of first-class brands with overflowing imagination and creativity as well as awareness of practicality.
MOD’ART International has established a long-term collaborative relationship with famous fashion enterprises in Paris.
They offer a certain amount of internships to the institute every year.

most of whom have worked in famous fashion enterprises and have abundant practical experience in teaching.

5.3 Brief Introduction of Shanghai University – Paris International Institute of Fashion and Arts
Shanghai University-Paris International Institute of Fashion and Arts was established with the support from the corresponding departments from China and France.
The president of China National Textile and Apparel Council, Mr. DU Yu Zhou is the honorary director. Authentic organizations,
such as China National Garment Association,
Costume Designer Fashion Association of China, are supporting bodies for our institute. Two majors are available,
which are Fashion Design & Pattern-Making, Luxury Marketing & Management, Fashion Communication and each lasting three years.
It was considered by the European Times published in Paris as the first higher-education institute to introduce French fashion education completely.
5.4 The requirements on applicants' English proficiency and art level
Applicants are supposed to be the graduates of high school or schools equivalent.
According to the Ministry of Education, graduates from high school (or schools equivalent) ought to have an English vocabulary no less than 1500 words.
But considering the difference in drawing and English teaching in different regions, the institute will, according to the interview results,
arrange pre-school classes to help improve students’ drawing and English level (students who quit in the middle will be charged with certain amount of fees).
English classes will be adjusted according to student’s individual needs. And students are supposed to work hard to catch up with the average level.
5.5 How is the school system of Fashion Design /Pattern Making Major planned?
The three-year undergraduate program is conducted according to the system of higher education in arts in France.
Teaching hours from foreign instructors are basically the same as it in school in Paris.
Foreign instructors’ teaching hours will account for no less than 50% of the whole teaching hours,
not including the sewing classes. The other 50% of the teaching hours are added by the institute. T
herefore the overall classes in the three years will be much more than that in other universities in China for four years.
5.6 How are three years' courses of Fashion Design/Pattern Making arranged?
The first year will be the foundation courses with the focus on drawing, English and other foundation knowledge in fashion.
Improvement will be in the second year and first semester of third year with foreign instructors teaching.
The second semester of the third year will be for the students to produce their final show, have internship in companies.
Students may go to the public university in France to pursue the master program. The credits earned in our institute are recognized by the university.
During the three-year program, classes might be consolidated together according to the realistic situation (each class no more than 25 students).
The students should follow the school’s arrangement.
5.7 How are three years' courses of Luxury Marketing & Management Major arranged?
Fashion Classes: Fashion History and Fashion Sociology;
Fashion Products and Luxury Products (From design to sale: International Fashion/Masters and Style, Boutique Display, Exhibition, Department Store, License.
Manufacturing: Fashion Trends, Fashion Range Management, Luxury Manufacture, General Knowledge about Luxury, Segment of Luxury Industry……)
Management Classes: Laws, Case Study, Finance, Human Resources
Marketing classes: Sales and Commodities management, Business Operations
5.8 Why is non-academic-degree education pattern adopted?
The French education pattern in fashion is introduced to let the students be exposed to the advanced educational
concepts and skills in fashion.
However, neither the curriculum setting nor the teaching method can be efficiently integrated with
it under the Chinese degree education pattern.
Thus, the institute has decided to adopt non-academic-degree education pattern.
It also needs to be pointed out that this kind of education pattern is the formal
education pattern in fashion in France.
5.9 About the issuanc, , , e o, , f the diploma The students, with all course of three year completed and credits earned, will be issued with:

After finishing the first three years' study of the undergraduate course, students can acquire a graduation certificate issued by the French institute. 2)Certificate of Completion of the three-year undergraduate program from&, amp;, nbsp;Shanghai University;
3)Associate Degree from University will be issued , and finish t, he program with success. The tuition of the three year associate program, 3,200RMB/year,
will be borne by the , ;institute.
If the students, not able to pass the exam or to complete the program, fail to obtain the diploma,
they them, selves should bear the consequence and cannot use this as an excuse for withdrawal.
5.10 About the tuition
Tuition Fees for Fashion Design and Pattern-Making: RMB 80,000/, year
Tuition Fees for Luxury Marketing and Management: RMB 60,000/year

5.11 About the accommodation
The students’ dormitory is located in Yanchang campus of Shanghai University, with four students sharing one room.
This accommodation fee is 5,000/year (with transportation fees included), subject to the adjustment by the institute according to each year’s situation.
5.12 The faculties and teaching language
The core course decided by the school in France and English classes(listening and oral practice) will be taught by foreign teachers in English, while ,
supplementary courses will be taught by professional local teachers. Students may , also take optional French course.
5.13 Further Study in France
Our institute adopts three-year educational system. Students who want to study abroad must take
the language test organized by the institute.
Only those who have passed the language test can submit the application. Upon the approval of Visa application,
students can go through withdrawal procedures (students should be responsible for their decisions of studying abroad).
Our institute suggests that students should think twice before making the decision to study abroad.
Getting the visa will not guarantee that one can catch up with the study.
The first three years’ study is finished at Chinese institute, and the credits taken of all the courses are admitted by the the French institute, MOD’ART. Students in the fourth year can apply for any school or institute of MOD’ART or GES Group. Students can acquire the master diploma after passing one year’s major courses and the master degree after passing two years’ major courses.
Students who want to further study abroad should be prepared both linguistically and financially.
5.14 The estimated cost to study further in France
Tuition fees, accommodation fees and living expenditures will be altogether RMB 200,000 with the current exchange rate taken into consideration.
However, students should be aware that France limits the students’ access to work.
5.15 The career perspective
The institute is supported by China National Garment Association, Textile Branch of China Council for The Promotion of International Trade,
Costume Designer Fashion Association of China.
Students will be arranged to get contact with fashion companies during their study. This is helpful for students’ future career or doing their own business.
5.16 The strategy of limited quota admission is adopted
In order to guarantee the teaching quality, each class is limited to 25 students.
