Overview of Major

The setting of our majors is intended to enable students lay solid foundation of design skills and train them to master various tools, in order to face up with the challenges they may meet in the future career. Our objective of cultivation is to comprehend the whole process of design and adopt it proficiently in practice, rather than just focus on certain product.

Fashion industry refers to design,production and sales of costumes and accessories. So fashion designers are demanded to create fashion from 3D perspective and know the whole design process well. That is to say, designers should express their design concepts in a 3D method by means of their own understanding of color,fabric and silhouette. Current designers are supposed to create not only beautiful and excellent works,but also markeable products.

We are committed to cultivating students’ creativity, and meanwhile encouraging them to develop their crafts and technique skills. Students are supposed to have proficiency in drawing sketches,making designs, planning procedures and finally finishing a high-quality collection of garments. All in all, the formulations of our curricula and projects are meant to cultivate comprehensive design ability of students. In addition, students are supposed to study certain cultural courses for understanding of the mutual influence among fashion, society and economy. Thus, students can have a complete structure of knowledge.

We encourage students to take part in all kinds of design creative exhibitions and contests, and also frequently invite fashion experts to make professional lectures in our institute, in order to help students adapt to rapidly changing fashion trends.

Last but not the least, the fashion show before students’ graduation provides them a broad stage to present their talents and learnings.

Career Prospect

The technology, production and distribution development of fashion industries are getting more and more global. Fashion designers are likely to design costumes and accessories for the manufacturers of Shanghai, HongKong and other cities all over the world. There are various companies in large need of fashion and costume designers.

Career prospects in fashion field include: designers, designer assistants, sketches,stylists,pattern makers,technical designers,fashion illustrators,fashion consultants, etc.

There are other career opportunities such as advertising, fashion buyers, displaying, etc.
